Rain Barrel Workshop

Celebrate the Rain! Watershed Awareness/Rain Barrel Workshop
Nancy Martin, Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC)
Don’t miss out on an abundant, free supply of the earth’s most valuable resource–fresh, clean, rainwater! This workshop will demonstrate how to build a rain barrel that will harvest and store rainwater from your roof for use in your garden and landscape. Participants will return home with the knowledge and necessary hardware to assemble and install a rain barrel, in addition to a $10 coupon good toward the purchase of a 55-gallon drum at Penn Barrel Company.  Learn how to practice watershed protection and conservation in your own backyard.

Applications for the Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program are now available! Applications can be submitted starting Thursday, May 1, 2014 thru 6:00 PM May 14, 2014. Please read the application fact sheet and the instructions. Applications may not be submitted before May 1, 2014.

Electronics Recycling Drop-Off Through September 2014

In anticipation of students moving out, OPDC launched a long-term Electronics Recycling Drive. Drop items off at OPDC office at 235 Atwood St between the hours of 8:30am and 5pm. Learn more about what is accepted here:

Street Cleaning Season April – November

If you aren't already aware, street cleaning season is here.  Check the signs in your area to be sure, but most South Oakland streets are cleaned on the third Wednesdays and Thursdays from April through November between 8:30am-2pm.

The purpose of City wide Public Safety meetings is to serve as a networking opportunity for residents, business owners and others to meet each other, public safety personnel, elected officials and city departmental staff as well as for all to learn about successful safety strategies, new safety initiatives and receive information about services to residents. City-wide meetings are held twice a year in April and in October and are open to the public.

The 2014 Spring City-wide Public Safety Meeting
Tuesday, April 22, 2014  6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Teamsters Hall, Local 249, 4701 Butler St., Lawrenceville
(There is plenty of parking in the Teamsters Hall parking lot!)

Presentation of Plans For Allegh Cnty Hlth Dept Site and UPMC 10 Yr Plan – Thur Apr 24 6-7:30pm
