Fall Yard Waste Collection Day is Sat 11/16/19

Pittsburgh residents are encouraged to compost their leaves, grass, branches, and other yard debris on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Your participation in this program helps the environment by diverting valuable resources from the landfill. 
 
Yard waste must be left at the curb, following the simple guidelines below. 
 
Place trash/recycling at your pick up spot before 6:00 a.m. Yard debris must be in brown paper bags and not weigh more than 35 pounds. Branches must be bundled with fiber twine or natural rope in branch lengths of 5 feet or less.

You're invited to the Pitt OLLI Open House on December 4th 1-3pm.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Pitt is a welcoming learning community of adults age 50+. They offer special classes they design for learners of this age and their members are able to also audit or sit in on many Pitt undergraduate courses. There are many OLLI member benefits, including free wifi on campus, library borrowing, and an ID card that allows our members to ride the Pitt shuttle buses around Oakland for free.

Lyft Grocery Access Program For Rides To Giant Eagle

Lyft, 412 Food Rescue, and Giant Eagle are teaming up to help you get a ride to and from Giant Eagle. 
 
As a means to reduce the time and financial burden caused by commuting to grocery stores and to further empower families by providing access to grocery stores with healthy options: Lyft is offering discounted ($2.50) rides to/from Giant Eagle for 200 families in need in the Pittsburgh area.

Pittsburgh Recycling Program For Electronics And Household Hazardous Waste
Starting July 24, 2019:
Pittsburgh is partnering with Environmental Coordination Services & Recycling (ECS&R) to host a Strip District drop-off site for electronics and household hazardous waste recycling. 
 
Must schedule a drop-off time in advance at ecsr.net/Pittsburgh-Recycling or by calling 814-425-7773.
Location: 3001 Railroad Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201
Hours:
Every Wednesday, 3 – 8 pm
Every Sunday, 9 am – 5 pm
Fees apply for most items. Checks and credit cards accepted (3% card processing fee)
Coming soon: Curbside service options (additional fee) and neighborhood collection events.

Street Closures In Oakland 8/17-25

Several Oakland Streets will be closed 8/18-25 due to Pitt & CMU Student Arrival 
 
Three Oakland streets adjacent to Carnegie Mellon University will be closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, as first-year students move into their residence halls for orientation. CMU’s weeklong orientation program aims to help incoming students learn about each other, campus life and the local community.

Suspect in 2 burglaries on Juliet St Sun 7/28/19

These photos are of a white male, 40-50 years old, who was seen on Sunday July 28th at 2 PM inside two different apartments on Juliet Street.  One burglary was in the 3200 block and the other criminal trespass was in the 3400 block.

The actor was barefoot, and may be homeless but not sure. Please circulate these photo's to your neighbors with hopes that someone will know who he is or can provide any information on him.  He may still be wondering around in the South Oakland area.  If anyone should see him in the area please call 911 so that they can identify him.

Boulevard of the Allies Betterment Project; single-lanerestrictions begin

Route 885 Boulevard of the Allies Betterment Project Began, July 11, in Pittsburgh

The $7.08 million project includes milling and resurfacing, concrete patching, minor structure repairs, traffic signal replacement at Bates Street, ADA curb ramp work, utility adjustments, and bicycle safe grate installation between the Liberty Bridge and Bates Street in Pittsburgh.
 
Work will begin with single-lane restrictions on the Boulevard of the Allies from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weeknights in the Oakland section between the Birmingham Bridge and Bates Street through early August.
 
Additionally, daylight work requiring single-lane restrictions may occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
 
Construction activities will then shift to the area between the Birmingham Bridge and the ramps to the Crosstown Boulevard and Liberty Bridge. Overnight and off-peak daylight lane restrictions will occur in this section.
 
Additionally, two weekend closures for paving operations may occur. This work has not yet been scheduled. Information will be provided prior to any work occurring.
 
Swank Construction Company LLC is the prime contractor. Work will be coordinated with other projects located in the same vicinity.
 
The overall project is anticipated to conclude by late January 2020.
