Change In Plans For Campus Advantage Development On Forbes Ave

Campus Advantage – the student apartment building on Forbes at the vacant laundromat site next to Arby's has revised their design to bring the height into compliance with zoning, thus not needing a variance (in response to appeal filed by owner of adjacent apartment building). The bigger news is that they have acquired the Arby's site and will be including that property in the development and expanding the size of the building.  They plan to present the revised plans to the community once they have the drawings ready to go.  Here is their preliminary schedule for going back to Planning Commission: 
  • Submit preliminary plans to city for review  1-8-16
  • City internal meeting to review pl               1-11-16
  • Meet with city staff to review plans            1-20-16
  • CDAP                                                      2-2-16 or 2-16-16 (depends on availability)
  • Planning commission briefing                    2-23-16 or 3-8-16
  • Planning commission hearing                    3-8-16 or 3-22-16

Take Your Tree to one of the following City Drop­ Off Locations Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to have
it composted.
  
January Only:
  • Strip District – Environmental Services Lot, 3001 Railroad Street (next to recycling drop­off)
Year Round:
  • East End, 2nd Division of Public Works, North Dallas Ave at Hamilton Ave
  • Hazelwood, 3rd Division of Public Works, Melanchton Ave. off 5200 block of 2nd Ave
  • West End, 5th Division of Public Works, 1330 Hassler St. off Hershel & Steuben (near Herschel Park)
Remove all ornaments, lights and stands.
No trees in plastic bags or netting will be accepted.
Christmas trees set out at the curb will be sent to the landfill

Parkway East Closure Sun 12/27/15 – Fri 1/1/16

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, in conjunction with PennDOT and Mosites Heavy Construction, remind commuters that full-lane closures of I-376 East will begin on Sunday, Dec. 27 at 6:00 a.m. The closure is permitted to last until Friday, Jan. 1 at 6:00 a.m. but project officials expect to reopen the parkway sooner, weather depending.

The five-day closure of the Parkway East is necessary to execute the implosion and site cleanup of the Greenfield Bridge. Implosion of the Greenfield Bridge is currently scheduled for Monday, Dec. 28 at 9:00 a.m.

500 Residents of Uptown and Oakland will receive free energy-saving tools and tips through participation in a one-year energy saving challenge
 
Be an Energy Coach
 
Who: Limited to 10 residents of Oakland and Uptown – no one knows the neighborhood like you do – your knowledge and network are key to making this program a success.
 
What: Participate in about 10 free training and planning sessions to help recruit and roll out the program; organize 12 monthly distributions of information on tips and tools; gather feedback from program participants 
 
When: About 20 hours/month for the span of this program (Jan 2016 – Apr 2017)

Junction Hollow Transit Connector Meeting Monday Night 12/7 6:30pm, 300 Saline St

There is a meeting regarding the potential transit connector from ALMONO site through Junction Hollow.  It is 6:30 pm Monday, Dec 7, at the International Union Of Operating Engineers building in lower Greenfield, 300 Saline Street, near Big Jim’s Restaurant.

UPDATE: Parkway East Closure Postponed Until Next Week Fri 12/11

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, in conjunction with PennDOT and Mosites Heavy Construction, has postponed the I-376 East (Parkway East) closures originally scheduled for December 4-6.
All inbound and outbound lanes of the Parkway East will be open this weekend.
This decision was made by the City of Pittsburgh after extensive conversations with Mosites Heavy Construction. Both the city and contractor feel that it is in the best interest of the community to keep the Parkway East open while PennDOT is conducting a Parkway West weekend closure. The city and contractor are confident that delaying the Parkway East closure one week will not disrupt the planned deconstruction and demolition schedule of the Greenfield Bridge.
The Parkway East closures have been postponed one week. The next weekend closure of I-376 East will take place Friday, Dec. 11 at 11:00 p.m. through Monday, Dec. 14 at 6:00 a.m.
