Mayor’s Education Task Force Mtg 4:30pm Tue 10/21 In Oakland

Pittsburgh Public Schools parents and other members of the community are welcome to attend the fourth meeting of Mayor William Peduto’s Education Task Force tomorrow evening, and share their thoughts about public education in Pittsburgh.
The public testimony will be used to help compile a report to Pittsburgh City Council on the task force’s findings. Before the report is issued, a fifth and final meeting of the task force is planned with Mayor Peduto.
The task force, named in February, brought together all education stakeholders in Pittsburgh for the first time in decades. It has grown into a collaborative and positive effort among elected officials, leaders in education, representatives from the foundation community, community members, the teachers union and others.
It also includes three current and former Pittsburgh Public Schools students. One of the students, Stephen O’Brion, suggested that Tuesday’s meeting be held at a PPS facility, the Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy, in North Oakland.

Pgh Garbage Pickup Suspended Tue 10/21

From the Mayor's Office:
The Environmental Services Bureau of the Department of Public Works advises that there will be no refuse collection in the city on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Collections the rest of the week will follow a holiday schedule: residents with regular Tuesday collections should put out their refuse on Wednesday, those with Wednesday collections on Thursday, and so on through the week. The Environmental Services Bureau will work through Saturday to pick up all neighborhood refuse.
Operations are being suspended for the Tuesday funeral of Environmental Services worker Omar Hodges.

Mayor, Police Chief on “Mayor’s Night On-Air” Tonight

Mayor William Peduto and Acting Chief of Police Cameron McLay will be panelists in a community forum tonight to discuss police/community relations in the City of Pittsburgh. The panel, hosted by Essential Pittsburgh's Paul Guggenheimer, will also include former police officer Sheldon Williams and Brandi Fisher, president of Alliance for Police Accountability. The discussion will be broadcast live on 90.5 FM, WESA.

What: Mayor’s Night On-Air

When: Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Mayor’s Night On-Air is a continuation of a series of public events in which Mayor Peduto and his top administrators have personally fielded questions from hundreds of city residents. Previous events include Mayor’s Night On(line), “Mayor’s Night Out” in several neighborhoods throughout the city and “Mayor’s Night In” events in his City-County Building office.

Planning Commission Hearing On UPMC Master Plan – Tue 10/21 2PM

The UPMC Institutional Master Plan is scheduled for Planning Commission action on Tuesday, October 21, 2:00 PM, 200 Ross Street, First Floor hearing room.
This would be a continued hearing from May 13.

Pgh Receives Grant For Summer And Afterschool Meal Programs

PITTSBURGH RECEIVES GRANT FROM NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES FOR SUMMER AND AFTERSCHOOL MEAL PROGRAMS
The National League of Cities is awarding Pittsburgh a $50,000 grant to create programs providing children with afterschool and summer meals.
Using the NLC grant, the city hopes to build visibility, drive participation, promote a healthy relationship with food, and broaden awareness among families who qualify for meals programs but are not currently enrolled. By introducing attractive programming, and through an aggressive citywide campaign, the city of Pittsburgh will increase the number of children participating in Summer and Afterschool Meals programs.

Allegh Cnty Health Assessment Community Mtg – Mon 10/6 6:30pm

The Allegheny County Health Department will share information about residents' health and is asking for community response about health issues that concern them at a series of community meetings. The link below leads to a description and calender of meetings.
A meeting is scheduled for October 6 from 6:30 PM to 8 PM at the Carnegie Library's East Liberty branch, located at 130 South Whitfield Street.
