At one time the Hyacinth Church was also a school for young children. Also at that time Ophelia Street served as a cut through between Forbes Avenue and the Boulevard of the Allies here in Oakland. At that time it made sense for there to be a crosswalk across Ophelia Street for children going to school.
Now that the church has closed and been renovated as a residential building, and the cut through off of Forbes has been permanently closed, this Ophelia Street crosswalk at Hyacinth Place is no longer needed. Removal of this crosswalk will add one more parking space to Oakcliffe, a community with a parking deficit.
