Student Police Academy Spring 2019 Apps Due 2/23/19

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is offering an opportunity for students, free of charge, to become closely acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of the Police Bureau. The Pittsburgh Student Police Academy (SPA) will bring the Pittsburgh Police and the high school youth together in a setting that offers a sample of police training to each student. 
 
The Spring 2019 session of the SPA will begin on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at The Pittsburgh Police Training Academy, 900 N. Lincoln Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233 
 
The Program will be held each Wednesday evening, from 6:00 PM—9:00 PM for 10 weeks.

  • Spend 11 weeks with city government and authority leaders and employees learning what services, operations and resources the city provides in and for our communities.
  • Applicants must be residents of the City of Pittsburgh or business owners within city limits

Pgh City Offices & Facilities Closed Xmas Day; RefusePickup Wed 12/26

City of Pittsburgh Offices and Facilities Closed for Christmas Day and Refuse Collection Suspended
City of Pittsburgh offices and facilities will be closed on Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25, and refuse collection will be suspended. 
 
Citiparks facilities including recreation centers and Healthy Active Living centers will be closed Christmas Day, as well as the Mellon Park tennis bubble and the Oliver Bath House. Other hours for the facilities during Christmas week are available here
 
The Schenley Park Skating Rink will be closed on Christmas, and hours for the rest of the week are available here. 
 
Refuse collection for Oakland will be postponed until Wednesday December 26.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6, 2018. 
You must be registered by Tuesday October 9, 2018 in order to vote.  Please visit the Allegheny County Website to check your registration, register to vote, change your address or party affiliation and find out where your polling place is.

Important dates to remember:
  • October 9- Last day to REGISTER TO VOTE before the November election
  • October 30 – Last day to apply for a civilian absentee ballot
  • November 2 – Last day for County Boards of Elections to receive voted civilian absentee ballots
  • November 6 – General election 
  • November 13- Last day for County Board of Elections to receive voted military and overseas absentee ballots, submitted for delivery no later than 11:59 p.m. Nov. 5.

Civic Leadership Academy is a free, 11-week course that encourages more informed, effective and inspired community and civic leadership by giving City residents an opportunity to learn about their local government.
  • Classes are every Wednesday, 6:00-8:30 PM, from September 6 – November 15, 2017
  • Applicants must be residents of the City of Pittsburgh or own a business within the City limits

2017 Application Period Begins For 2nd “PghLab” Program

Mayor William Peduto, the City of Pittsburgh Department of Innovation & Performance, the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, the Housing Authority, and the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority today announced the opening application period for the second cycle of the PGH Lab program. 
 
PGH Lab is a program designed to connect local startup companies with the City of Pittsburgh to explore new ways to use technology and new services to make local government more efficient, transparent, sustainable and inclusive. The program gives the companies an opportunity to beta test their products and gain valuable feedback. During the pilot period startups will be connected with a “city champion” that will guide them through the 3- 4-month pilot period.

City Of Pgh Seeking Resident Reps For Complete StreetsAdvisory Board

Recently, Pittsburgh City Council has adopted a Complete Streets Policy. As a part of that policy, a Complete Streets Advisory Board will be formed to advise the City on best practices and projects for more bike-friendly and walkable streets.

On the Advisory Board will be 4 resident representatives. The Department of City Planning is accepting applications for resident representatives.
