One neglected part of Pittsburgh’s infrastructure is its pedestrian stairs. Here in Oakcliffe there are several staircases, but the one most in need of attention is the staircase that connects the bottom of Lawn Street with the top of Mackey Street. This wooden staircase serves as an essential transportation link in our community, used by the US Postal service and residents of Oakcliffe.
At this time the staircase is functional, although physically shaky due to its upper section not being attached firmly to the stone wall. If this wooden staircase were replaced with a permanent cement staircase it would become a safe and better used link between Lawn Street and the bike path located at the foot of Bates Street.
