Parade for 2017 Stanley Cup Champion Pgh Penguins

The City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County announced that a victory parade for the 2017 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins will take place in downtown on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. 
 
The parade route will follow a similar route as previous championship parades that took place in 2009 and 2016 but will now end at Point State Park.

Visit the Heinz History Center on Friday, June 9 through Sunday, June 11 for FREE Admission Days, sponsored by the Jack Buncher Foundation. 
 
All visitors to the History Center, including adults, children, and seniors, will receive free admission throughout the weekend. 
 
Enjoy all six floors of the “Smithsonian’s home in Pittsburgh,” including its newest exhibition, #Pixburgh: A Photographic Experience. The exhibition showcases nearly 400 photos from the History Center’s extensive collection, including many never displayed in public before.

Have you always wanted to try biking to campus? This is your chance! Join your fellow Pitt community members and bike to campus on Friday, May 19th. New bicyclists and seasoned bicyclists alike are welcome! 
 
  • Enjoy the commuter café with free breakfast and coffee.
  • Enter to win raffle prizes, including a U-lock and bike lights.
  • Practice placing your bike on the bus rack in a low-stress environment with Port Authority’s demo bike rack.
  • Receive a free bike safety check from the Pitt Police.
  • Learn about bike laws and bike safety from the Oakland Transportation Management Association (OTMA) and The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
  • Meet the Pitt Bicycle Collective student club and learn about a new Bike Co-Op space being planned at Pitt.
  • Register your bike for free and receive a gift, complimentary of OTMA.
  • Meet other like-minded bicyclists!

Traffic Advisory
REMINDER- Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Road Closures & Transit Detours 
 
Initial Downtown road closures will begin on Friday, May 5 starting at 12:00 p.m. on the Boulevard of the Allies between Wood Street and Stanwix Street. This section of the Boulevard of the Allies will remain closed through Sunday. 
 
For Saturday, May 6 events (Pittsburgh 5K and Kids Marathon), North Shore and Downtown road closures will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and continue until 12:00 p.m. 
 
For Sunday, May 7 events (Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay), Downtown road closures will start at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 7 and continue around the city through 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 7.

The Port Authority will also post detours and schedule changes for race weekend, please be sure to view their information if you are planning to use buses or the T to get around.

Phipps Conservatory wants to reward you for going green

A visit to the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens could mean more than a walk through the flowers—it could mean a more sustainable future for Pittsburgh. Inline image 1
 
The Oakland-based public garden now offers incentives for switching to Green Mountain Energy, one of the largest clean power retailers in the country. Pennsylvania and New York residents who visit Phipps can work with an on-site Green Mountain representative to swap their current electricity provider for power generated by sources such as local wind farms and solar. Every guest who switches during their visit gets a free one-year family membership to Phipps while existing members receive a six-month extension of their membership.

Downtown Street Closures For Sat St Patrick’s ParadeDay 3/11 7:30-1

Several main thoroughfares throughout Downtown Pittsburgh will be closed Saturday morning for the City's St. Patrick's Day Parade. 
Street closures will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11, along the parade route, which includes Liberty Avenue, Grant Street, the Boulevard of the Allies and the parade's end at Stanwix Street. 
Streets will be opened up again at approximately 1 p.m. 
The parade will form on Liberty Avenue from 11th to 26th streets.  
Port Authority buses will have access to the busway at 26th Street. More than 50 buses will be detoured during the parade, but service will still be maintained. Two-car light rail trains will be running on the red and blue lines throughout the day from 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Please visit PortAuthority.org for more detailed detour information.

Savoy Restaurant at 2623 Penn Avenue is hosting a Black History Month Community Leadership Awards Event Thursday, February 23nd from 5:00 – 7:00pm to honor the five Black Elected Officials of PBEOC – Rep. Jake Wheatley,  Rep. Ed Gainey, Councilman Lavelle, Councilman Rev. Ricky Burgess, and County Councilman Dewitt Walton.
