OPDC is now accepting applications for the 2014 Residential Façade Grant program. The program restores historic character to our neighborhood’s homes, instills pride in our community and catalyzes neighborhood investment.
The Façade Grant Program is available to residential property owners in all four neighborhoods of Oakland – Central, North, South and West. With a limit of $5,000 per grant, awardees receive a 1 to 1 match for an owner-occupied building, and a 1 to 2 match for a non-owner-occupied building.
Last year, OPDC awarded $21,000 in grants. Projects included roof and gutter repairs; painting; walkway and sidewalk repairs; landscaping; porch repairs; window and door replacements; and wall and foundation repairs.
Oakwatch meeting will be at the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh (234 McKee Place) from 12-1:30PM.
The Federation likes to know how many to plan for so RSVP with Alicia at 412.621.7863 ext. 21.
Only street parking will be available.
Code enforcement partners will join us for updates, and District 8 City Councilman Dan Gilman will be the guest speaker. Coffee and snacks will abound.
The Oakland Green Team seeks to “put the oak back in Oakland,” improving trail connections and creating attractive open spaces. The team will identify, guide and implement greening activities throughout Oakland.
The Oakland 2025 Master Plan identifies greening and beautification as vital areas for creating a sustainable and enjoyable community. The Oakland Green Team is a direct response to this vision for the future, and will strive to achieve this vision by creating a forum for resident ideas and actions.
- The Green Team is participating in the redesign of the Louisa Street steps and in creating three new murals on Semple Street. We’ll be posting lots of updates on OPDC’s Facebook and Twitter page as the projects moves forward.
- Next meeting: Thursday, July 18th from 6:00-7:15PM at the Oakland Career Center, 294 Semple Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
At the last Oakwatch meeting, we heard an update from Barbie Arroyo of Councilman Kraus’s staff on the Responsible Hospitality project. Many of you had great questions that required a more in-depth discussion.
We’re excited to announce that Councilman Kraus has arranged for Jim Peters, the Executive Director of the Responsible Hospitality Institute, to join us at the next Oakwatch meeting on April 17th to discuss how RHI will affect Oakland directly. This meeting will be at 6pm at the Oakland Career Center, located at 294 Semple Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Please enter the building through the Louisa Street side door.
Councilman Kraus recently did an update on this project in OPDC’s e-newsletter, which just came out today. There’s also some exciting news in this newsletter about work being done to transform the Bates Street gateway into Oakland and many exciting events that are taking place around the neighborhood this spring. Check out the newsletter by clicking here.
We will soon post the minutes from the March meeting on our website.
As always, don’t hesitate to contact OPDC staff with questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend!
